Battle for Harmony And Old Lights

Jackie shared some information on the origins and meaning of "Battle for Harmony" and the origin of the "Old Lights" on Weibo.

I promised to share with you the origins of the sculpture (Battle for Harmony). When I was in America in 2001 I met artists Julie Rotblatt and Omri Amrany. They took a full ten years to complete the sculpture. It has my hand in the five fist positions: dragon, snake, tiger, crane, leopard, as well as gestures of peace, love, harmony. It is a symbol of victory over self and challenging yourself. Julie personally came to Shanghai, with her son, to unveil the scultpture with me. I am grateful to them for coming. I would also like to thank my professional design team, they racked their brains to place it in just the right position. I personally welcome everyone to visit the gallery in the future.

THE STORY OF THE 'OLD LIGHTS':

A rough translation:>

Planning and preparation for the construction of the JC Film Gallery took 5 years, actual construction took 3 years. I personally invested over 40 million RMB into the project. The film gallery will open to the public later this year. I specifically chose November 8th to have the lighting ceremony for the 'Old Lights' and the unveiling ceremony for the "Battle for Harmony".

The Origin of the Old Lights

I stumbled across the 'Old Lights" while filming Rush Hour 3. They came from the houses in the Old French Concession in Shanghai but were sold to the US. I bought 17 of the lights and stored them in Hong Kong, but didn't know what to do with them, so they just became a pile of scrap metal. When I had the idea of constructing the film museum I searched for craftsmen who could repair and restore these old lamps. Finally today they are settled in Shanghai. When the light shines from the Old Light I am very happy because it can be said that they have returned to Shanghai. Finally I can let go of this important matter. Next time I will tell you about the origin of "Battle for Harmony".
